Sharing the Gift of Food ? Supermarket Blitz 2020
KITCHENER-WATERLOO – This weekend, come see our caring community at its best, as hundreds of volunteers collect cash and potatoes at grocery stores for Supermarket Potato Blitz 2020, in support of House of Friendship’s Emergency Food Hampers.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, more than 350 volunteers will be on hand to receive cash and potato donations from the community, all to meet the need of local families living on low income.
The Supermarket Blitz, held at 28 stores throughout Kitchener, Waterloo and Elmira, is also supported by businesses, schools and faith communities in the month of February.
The Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank will also run their own Supermarket Blitz to benefit Cambridge residents.
Amazing community partners have come together for the enormous job of potato logistics. The Food Bank of Waterloo Region has generously loaned warehouse space for event day and Erb Transport will store and transport potatoes to the Emergency Food Hampers program until all the fresh potatoes are used up. Donations of cash and potatoes will be used in House of Friendship’s Emergency Food Hampers program throughout the year.
Come and be inspired by some other remarkable community volunteers and leaders including Waterloo Regional Police Service team members, (Beechwood Zehrs), former Regional Councillor Jane Mitchell (Food Basics Laurelwood), Waterloo Fire Rescue (Sobeys, Parkside Dr.) and, new this year, Kitchener Fire Department (Stanley Park Zehrs).
Members of the public can drop off their donations of cash or potatoes on Saturday, Feb.
